MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

The Delta State Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with Humanserve Consultancy Services, has organised a seminar on attitudinal change and emotional intelligence as part of efforts to enhance professionalism, productivity and effective service delivery in the state civil service.

‎The training, held in Asaba, brought together staff of the ministry and focused on workplace behaviour, teamwork, personal development and the role of emotional intelligence in improving organisational performance.

‎Speaking at the opening of the seminar, the Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, who was represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Omamuzo Erebe, SAN,  said the programme was part of an ongoing capacity-building initiative aimed at improving workplace conduct and productivity.

‎Erebe noted that the ministry had prioritised continuous staff development to strengthen service delivery and foster a culture of excellence within the public service.

‎“This is a continuous capacity-building programme that we started this year. We are focusing on the need for attitudinal change and working with emotional intelligence. Our goal is to improve attitudes towards work because improved work attitudes ultimately translate to increased productivity,” he said.

‎A consultant with Humanserve Consultancy Services, Dr. Florence Ofovwe, who delivered a lecture on emotional intelligence and positive psychology, said her interest in the field stemmed from a desire to help individuals overcome personal and professional challenges.

‎She emphasized the growing importance of emotional intelligence in modern organisations, noting that leading global institutions now consider it an essential component of employee development and performance.

‎According to her, emotional intelligence equips individuals with the skills needed to manage relationships, make sound decisions and achieve greater success in both their personal and professional lives.

‎Also speaking, another consultant with Humanserve Consultancy Services, Henry Uzor, stressed the importance of positive workplace attitudes, describing them as critical to teamwork and organisational effectiveness.

‎He observed that negative attitudes could adversely affect collective performance and hinder the achievement of organisational goals, adding that cooperation and shared values were necessary for workplace harmony and productivity.

‎Uzor further highlighted the role of mindset in national development, noting that attitudes and values significantly influence societal progress. He urged participants to embrace personal growth, self-discovery and continuous learning as tools for improving both their professional performance and quality of life.
